When it comes to faux leather, the material is already making news for all the right reasons. Faux leather is popular and is heavily used in designing the home furniture, nowadays. The fact is; the market is flooded with faux leather furniture owing to its stylish looks, and the affordability it offers.

Also, known as synthetic or fake leather; faux leather is widely used in making sofas, chairs, center tables, or even headboards. The real challenge comes when one needs to paint these faux leather sheets. Here are five tricks to help you through.

    1. Choose Acrylic Paints

The best part about acrylic paints is that they can be availed in many colors that range from solid, metallic, and glittery variants. The paint is known to settle well on the faux leather, does not fade, and does not even develop cracks with time. Or, you could even choose a chalky paint for it offers those shabby looks to the furniture.

    2. Cleaning The Faux Leather Surface

The first step is to clean the faux leather surface using isopropyl alcohol. This simple step will help eliminate dust particles accumulated on the surface. Using a cotton ball dipped in the alcohol, make sure you clean the entire surface so that the paint can stick to the cleaner surface.

    3. The Precautions To Take

If you are choosing acrylic paint, blend it with a tinge of acetone when you put the respective colors in the “colors palette.” The acetone is known to thin the paint making it easier to work with it. Make sure you do not over-add the acetone as it will dilute the paint excessively. Before you move on with painting the craft leather, make sure to add only a little bit of paint on the plate as it can dry up easily.

    4. Applying The Paint

Start with applying an even base coat to the surface of the faux leather. Next, take a sponge and dip it in the paint. Now make long vertical strokes on the leather surface to distribute the paint evenly on its surface. If you are painting furniture, make sure to only concentrate on painting one side at a time. Before you could move on with applying other coats, let the paint dry first of all. Once the coat has dried up, give it a layering of another coat to enhance the consistency and the looks of the real leather.

    5. Adding The Designs

When the paint finally dries, you can move on with making creative designs on the faux leather surfaces. Use a pencil to draw what you have in mind, but remember to use the pencil gently. Now, fill the design with the colors of your choice that too tactfully. Lastly, if the paint is found to be going here and there; correct it with cotton pad dipped in acetone. Let the whole thing dry, and bingo! You are done.
